Pengaruh Kualitas Sekolah Menengah Atas dan Kejuruan Terhadap Imbal Hasil Pasar Tenaga Kerja di Indonesia
Empirical data and previous research found the General High School (SMA) and Vocational High School (SMK) in Indonesia are still facing high unemployment rates and income differences in the labor market. The quality of SMA/SMK could indirectly affect the differences in income because the years of education as an educational output are affected by educational inputs, one of which is the school quality. Using the Indonesia Family Live Survey (IFLS) wave 3?5, the difference in return to education between SMA and SMK graduates is not statistically significant, caused by the differences in school quality. However, analyzing within SMK, the graduates from good quality SMK directly increase work participation and indirectly increase access to tertiary education. Hence, graduates from good quality SMK have higher income compared to the ones from relatively low-quality SMK. This finding shows the importance of school quality on the labor market outcomes, especially in vocational high schools (SMK), so that policy focusing on improving school quality should be enhanced.Ada Tabel
