Pengaruh Rangkap Jabatan Dewan Komisaris, CEO Overconfidence, dan CEO Narcissism Terhadap Biaya Hutang Perusahaan: Studi pada Perusahaan yang Terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia Periode 2016-2019

Abdullah, Fidela Zulkarnaen - ; Prof. Dr. Cynthia Afriani Utama, S.E., M.M. (Pembimbing/Promotor) - ;

This study aims to analyse the impact of board characteristics that can be seen from commissioner?s multiple directorships, CEO overconfidence, and CEO narcissism perspectives on the amount of company?s cost of debt in Indonesia. The research sample of this study consisted of 368 non-financial sector companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange within the period of 2016 to 2019. The research method being used was panel regression with Random Effect Model as the estimation method. The results of this study indicates that there is a significant negative effect of multiple directorships, overconfidence, and narcissism on the company?s cost of debt in Indonesia. Therefore, it can be concluded that the presence of commissioners with multiple directorships and CEO with an overconfident and narcissistic personality can significantly reduce the amount of debt costs charged by creditors to the company. With multiple directorships, the effectiveness of commissioner?s supervision will be higher so that it can eventually reduce the occurrence of managerial opportunism within the company. In addition, CEO?s with overconfident and narcissistic traits are also known to have stronger motivation in encouraging their companies to fulfil all forms of obligations imposed to them so that their reputation as a competent leader can be maintained. Therefore, the agency problems can be minimized and creditors will have more confidence with the company that in the end will lead to a lower cost of debt imposed to the company (Fama & Jensen, 1983). This study is the first to examine the simultaneous relationship between CEO overconfidence and CEO narcissism with the company?s cost of debt. Furthermore, this study is also known as the first study that conduct research on the effect of multiple directorships on the company?s cost of debt in Indonesia.Ada Tabel
