Identifies extraversion (affability) and proactive personality (active influence) as key antecedents of political skill, which in turn enhances job performance through the mediating role of reputation. Findings from surveys of industrial salespeople, business interns, and healthcare employees consistently demonstrate that politically skilled individuals build stronger reputations, leading to higher performance evaluations. The study highlights the growing importance of political skill in flatter, dynamic organizations where interpersonal effectiveness is critical for career success. Practical implications include aligning personality traits with job requirements and fostering reputation-building behaviors. However, the authors call for further research to explore additional mediators (e.g., trust, social networks) and situational factors that may influence these relationships. This work advances understanding of how political competence translates into tangible workplace outcomes while underscoring its complexity in organizational ecosystems.
