Deskripsi
During the last two decades several Asian countries experienced rapid rates of economic growth. The Asian region as a whole has frequently been cited as one of the most rapidly developing regions in the world. This rapid economic growth, in turn, has contributed to the improvement of the quality of life and, to a large extent, to the alleviation of poverty especially by creating jobs for the unemployed. In many parts of Asia, however, the living standards of large sections of the population are still below the poverty line. In some countries, the national economic development effort has been less successful than originally envisaged. In others, despite overall economic growth, the benefits of economic development have not reached the population in an equitable manner.
