In order to expand Indonesia's non-oil exports, , the supply side is shown to be of the utmost importance. Within this area of inquiry this thesis looKs at how efficiently one important sector that is the large and Medium Scale Industry uses its inputs. The methodology used is the standard Solow Productivity is measured through a Cobb-Douglas approach. production function . The inputs specified are capital and labor, while the -appropriate output measurement is value-added. Capital data are computed utilizing the Perpetual Inventory Method. Number of worKer was used as a measure of labor input. The main finding is that productivity slowdown tooK place between 1975 and 1985, amounting to 8. 831.. It is a 1 so found that capital's contribution to output was higher than that of 1 a bor. Further, productivity slowdown was larger in the medium than it was in the large scale industries. Differences in supply-side policies following the 1978 and 1983 devaluations were reponsible for the fact that TFP change after 1978 dipped while fo 1 1 owing the 1983 devaluation it hiKed. .
