Pengaruh kepemilikan investor institusional terhadap praktik manajemen laba
The purpose of this research is to examine the influence of institutional investors on one of earnings management practices: managerial myopia. ?Managerial Myopia? or Myopic investment Behavior refers to underinvestment by management in long-term, intangible projects such as research and development (R&D), advertising, and employee training for the purposes of meeting short-term goals (Porter, 1992). The research intends to prove empirically how is the influence of investor institutional ownership on managerial myopia practice in Indonesia, whether it prevents or instead, encourages the managerial myopia practice. The sample used in this research are all listed companies in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from year 2002-2007, excluding listed companies in financial industries. The research uses logit regression method as the statistical test. Empirical result shows that institutional investors significantly increase the likelihood of managers to engage in myopic investment behavior (positive relationship) in companies of which in SD sub-sample, whose earnings before R&D, advertising, promotion, training and taxes have declined relative to the prior year, but by an amount that can be reversed by a reduction in R&D, advertising, promotion, and training expenses.Ada tabel
