Survival and growth of Indonesian garment industry in relation with level of wage
This thesis analyzes some of the variables that influences the survival and growth of firms in Indonesian garment industry in two periods. Based on econometric model analyses, this research uses probit method to analyze the firms? survival and ordinary least square method to analyze the firms? growth. In the first period, 1993-1997, variables that determines the firms? survival are level of wage and ratio of imported raw material to total raw material with positive relationships. To grow in garment industry, the variables that significantly influence it are value added, age, and level of wage with negative relationships, while ratio of imported raw material to total raw material and transportation access positively influence firms? growth. In the second period, 2002-2005, the only variable that influences firms? survival is capital per labor ratio with negative relathionship. The variables that determine firms? growth are number of labors employed with negative relationship and ratio of imported raw material to total raw material with positive relationship. Level of wage is positively influence firms? survival in the first period. On the other side, level of wage is negatively influence firms? growth in the first period.Ada tabel
