Analisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kinerja dan daya saing ekspor industri penggilingan baja di Indonesia : studi kasus 2002 - 2006
This thesis is mainly discussed about the competitiveness and export performance of Indonesian steel rolling industry. This industry has a strategic role as they provides raw materials to the other industries. Indonesia can produce an internationally proven steel because of its quality and durability. As time goes by, we still have a lack of export competitiveness due to lack of production capacity and domestic demand coverage. In this research, i assumed that by improving domestic capabilities of this industry, the export competitiveness will be established as the Indonesian government already start the ?Steel As National Power? act. This thesis will try to determine what is the major determinant of competitiveness and export performance of this Industry. By knowing the most significant determinant,I can give an appropriate policy recommendation that can used to improve the competitiveness and export performance of this industry. In this research, there are two groups of variables, the main variable is the industry concentration ratio that helps to describe the market structure. This variable will either have a positive correlation (Porter And Sakakibara,2001) or negative correlation (Uriu,1996), and the other variables are marketsize, average product of capital, and government import regulations of steel. This thesis resulted that the most significant determinant is government import regulations of steel. The main variable, the concentration ratio is negatively correlated to export. As the major four firm have a high marketpower in domestic market but lack of competitiveness made them pushed their market domestically as there are still many opportunities in domestic market. The other variables, the productivity and marketsize played small role to the export. From this research, it is concluded that the government have to enact a policy that give more incentives to investments in this industry in order that this industry will have a higher market due to increase of its production capacity.Ada tabel
