Determinan Lembaga Keuangan Mikro di Indonesia dalam Mencapai Kinerja Sosial dan Keuangan
Microfinance is one of the instruments used in poverty problems through providing financial services to the poor. In serving the poor, MFIs have a primary mission, which is to reach the poorest people. On the other hand, MFIs are faced with the condition to achieve financial sustainability. These two conditions are known as the "double-bottom- line." There are various opinions regarding MFIs in dealing with the trade-off issue between depth of outreach and sustainability. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors that influence an MFI in Indonesia in achieving depth of outreach and financial sustainability. The study also conducted further analysis of the performance of MFIs based on industry classifications, namely age, institutional status, and outreach size. This study collects empirical data from MIX Market, Annual Report BMT UGT Nusantara, and BPRS Amanah Ummah, for ten years, from 2009 – 2019. This study uses the Random Effects Model (REM) and Fixed Effects Model (FEM) to process the data and found that sustainability, efficiency, and burden significantly affect social performance. Whereas aspects of expenses, efficiency, income, and leverage significantly affect financial performance. Based on the classification of established age, adult MFIs are better at achieving financial performance, and new MFIs are better at achieving social performance. Furthermore, based on the classification of institutional status, the study found that NGOs are better at achieving the double-bottom-line.
