Analisis Pengaruh Pengalaman Overeducation: Fenomena Batu Loncatan dan Implikasi Terhadap Upah di Pekerjaan Selanjutnya

Overeducation is a condition in which one has to work in a job with requirements below their education qualification. Research in Indonesia has succeeded in explaining overeducation in a short-term scope. Therefore, this research provides a new perspective on the long-term impact of this phenomenon. Using Multinomial Logistic Regression, this study tries to assess the impact of the overeducation experience on the probability of being overeducated in their following job. Then, with Fixed Effect Regression, this study also explains the future wage implications due to the overeducation experience. Based on SAKERNAS data from February 2017-August 2018, the results of this study indicate that workers with overeducation experience have a 31.64% probability of becoming overeducated again. This probability is lower than the 67.35% probability of switching to jobs matching their education qualifications. This condition shows that overeducation status is a 'stepping stone' to appropriate job status. Nonetheless, this study also shows a 16.2% wage penalty for workers with overeducation experience compared to workers with match experience when both move to a job suitable to their education qualification. Even so, the difference will decrease along with the increase in work experience and completely disappear in the 10th month.
