Rahmatina Awaliah Kasri, S.E., MIDEC., M.B.A., Ph.D. (Pembimbing/Promotor) - ; Sosianti, Meis Winih - ;

Zakat is one of the important institutions in Islamic Economics that aims to realize socio-economic justice and improve the human welfare. In the context of Indonesia, the collected zakat funds have not reached the potential so that zakat institutions still need to optimize their services in order to attract various potential community groups, such as generation X and generation Y, to pay zakat by utilizing technological advances. Therefore, this study is conducted to determine and compare the factors that influence the intention of generation X and generation Y to pay online zakat in Indonesia. In developing the research framework, this study adopts the UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) framework enrich with other relevant concepts, so that the research variables include performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, zakat literacy, trust in zakat institutions, and islamic religiosity. This study successfully collected primary data from 734 respondents, which were processed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. The results of the study using the whole sample show that the order of variables that significantly influence the intention of generation X and Y to pay online zakat are facilitating conditions, performance expectancy, trust in zakat institutions, social influence, and zakat literacy. Meanwhile the variables of effort expectancy and islamic religiosity are not significant in this study. Furthermore, based on multigroup analysis, this study found differences in the factors that influence the intention to pay online zakat between these two generations. Generation X’s intention to pay online zakat is influenced by factors of facilitating conditions, performance expectancy, and social influence, meanwhile generation Y’s is influenced by factors of trust in zakat institutions, performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, and social influence. Thus, the variables of trust in zakat institutions only significantly affects the intention to pay online zakat in generation Y. Based on the results of this study, zakat institutions are expected to continue to improve the quality of online zakat infrastructure, highlight the benefits of online zakat services, optimize social media as a tool for promotions, and intensify education about zakat. In particular, zakat institutions need to maintain and improve their reputation, especially for generation Y who consider this factor very important in influencing their intention to pay online zakat. The results of this study are also expected to provide suggestions for zakat managers and authorities and enrich the literature on zakat, especially online zakat in Indonesia..Ada Tabel
