Widyaningsih, Rani - ; Irfan Syaebani S.E., M.M., M.Hum. (Pembimbing/Promotor) - ;

Job segregation becomes a problem if there are barriers to the mobility of the production factors. Research shows that women consistently have low proportion in male-dominated jobs. Legal/institutional norms and elements formed within traditional gender boundaries can prevent women from entering certain jobs, creating gender discrimination and challenges, resulting in women's exit from male dominated jobs. Most scientific work focuses on explaining why women leave while only few studies explaining why women stays in her field. Therefore, by adopting a constructivist view, this study investigates the background of women who pursuing careers in male-dominated jobs, the challenges they face, and the reasons why women persist. Participants from security guard jobs, truck drivers, online motorcycle drivers, machine operators, programmers, and engineers are collected using semi-structured interviews. Data analysis conducted by using an in vivo coding in the first cycle of coding, pattern coding in the second cycle of coding, and data display to draw conclusions. Findings indicated that educational background, expected outcomes, and family support influenced participants' decision to enter. Participants also experienced gender challenges (stereotypes and minorities) and job challenges (long working hours). The reason why participant in blue-collar group stay is economic reasons, while the white-collar group expresses interest and curiosity as main reasons. .Ada Tabel
