Causal effect of low-cost carriers on air passenger movements in Asia

This master thesis studies the impact of low-cost carrier (LCC) on the change of international air passenger movements in Southeast Asia and East Asia. By using data of 30 major international airports in Southeast Asia and East Asia and employing fixed-effect model, this research is successful in finding the fact that LCC entry causes number of international air passenger to increase significantly. This impact; however, is moderated as distance between origin and destination airports becomes longer. Furthermore, it is found that additional LCC company is effective to increase number of international air passenger for relatively short-distance route.27/08/2016
