The Impact of the Asean-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) on the Indonesia-China Trade Balance
This thesis examines the challenges to Indonesia?s economic ties with China in relation tothe ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) for the period of 2001 to 2013. It covers the following three periods of time:the period before ACFTA (i.e., 2001 to 2004),the Early Harvest Programme (EHP) period (i.e., 2005 to 2009) and the period following the full implementation of ACFTA (i.e., 2010 to 2013). Additionally, the analysis uses the trade balance trend of Indonesia?s export and import performance based on commodities. The results confirm that in relation to commodities China receives greater benefitsfrom trade compared to Indonesia. Indonesia experiences comparative advantages in relation to raw material commodities; however, these advantages are highly dependent on world market prices andin relation tomanufacturing commodities China is ahead of Indonesia.
