Absent parents and child development in Tonga

The paper examines the impact of having parents work abroad on child development in Tonga. Using Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys data and various matching strategies, I compare the employment and education decisions of children with parents abroad to those co-located. The findings suggest that children are less likely to be in school when both their parents are abroad, and girls are less contribute in child labor when mother away..16/07/2021
