This book is designed for policymakers, academics and researchers who are interested in enriching the SEZ program. “Benchmarking Study on Special Economic Zones in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and China” is a joint research between the Indonesian Ministry of Trade and Management Research Centre University of Indonesia, covering not only the SEZ itself, but also illustrating a wider national investment climate in which it functions and at the same time presents direct view of investors about SEZ in these four countries.

This book provides a comprehensive guide to the key policy questions that the Governments are facing in establishing the SEZ programs, including what are the key success factors in developing SEZ, how to develop a successful cluster strategy, how to speed up transfer of knowledge, etc.

One of the most important findings stressed in this book is the shift from traditional enclave model of zones to SEZ that is integrated-strategies of trade and industry with core trade and social infrastructure, domestic suppliers, and local labor markets.
