Hyperinnovation: multidimensional enterprise in the connected economy
Inspirations and sources of information for this book are as diverse as any subject could be. Hyperinnovation is all encompassing. But I have set out to achieve a simple aim: to show that there are endless possibilities for developing wealthy, fruitful futures for all economies, organisations and individuals. And that hyperinnovation is not only tangible and manageable, but has a centrally important role in the connected economy. The thesis drinks deep from the cutting-edge of scientific and management thinking and practice, inspired by people working in the foremost innovative institutions and radical commercial ventures. Without doubt the thinking and writings of: Chris Argyris, Brian Arthur, Bruno Bettelheim, the late David Bohm, Fritjof Capra, John Casti, Peter Cochrane, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Michael Frye CBE, Charles Handy, Gary Hamel, the late Soichiro Honda, Douglas Hostadter, Fumio Kaodama, Stuart Kauffman, Kevin Kelly, John Naisbitt, Mavin Minsky, the late Akio Morita, Rosabeth Moss-Kanter, Ken Ohmae, Norman Packard, Tom Peters, C.K. Prahalad, Howard Rhiengold, Rudy Ruggles, Michael Schrage, Peter Senge, George Stalk, Jim Taylor, Alvin Toftler, Jim Utterback, and Watts Wacker, penetrate every page of this book. Few other people?s memes have affected my thinking with such intensity. It also draws from the multitude of experiences I have gained working with and learning from some of the most innovative enterprises and institutions the world over: American Airlines, British Airways, BBC, Boeing, Bank of America, Capital One, Cisco Systems, A.P Besson, Concord Lighting, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, McDonnell-Douglas, Matra Satellite Systems, Rockwell-Collins, General Electric Corporation, Raytheon and Toyota. Many thanks to my mentors and professional colleagues over the years: Terry Andrews, Dave Betts, David Bradford, Andy Clark, Morris Duzelman, Tony Herbert, Tony Lawrence, Geoff Snowman, Derek Smith, Fred Smith, Rob Stuart, Roger Thorpe and Terry Watts. xx Cheers to my close friends for all their support while this project was in development: Mark Beacon, Kevin Reeves, Steve Hayward, Mark Jackson, Mark Lawrence, Paul Mazzeros, Simon Nobel, Richard Pither, Dave and Peter Robins. Last, but by no means least, I am indebted to my publishers Jacky Kippenberger, Nathan Gaw and Steve Rutt in the UK, and Paige Casey in New York whose guidance during the completion and marketing of Hyperinnovation has been invaluable. Thank you. Every effort has been made to trace all the copyright holders but if any have been inadvertently overlooked the publishers will be pleased to make the necessary arrangements at the first opportunity.
