A Time for hope: a response to Nancy Adler
Nancy Adler's article, "The Arts and Leadership: Now That We Can Do Anything, What Will We Do?" is both inspiring and thought-provoking. This response elaborates on some of the points she made and situates others in larger contexts. The first point it addresses is hope. Adler focuses on the importance of hope and what it means to be hopeful. The second is time. Adler argues that the time is right for the cross-fertilization of the arts and leadership. The third point is Adler's call to "see reality." The authors find links between seeing reality and some current approaches to "Presence" as being discussed by Peter Senge and others associated with the Society for Organizational Learning. Fourth, this response introduces some links suggested by the field of organizational aesthetics. How might aesthetics education and experience foster the ability to see reality? The authors believe that Adler's work both enriches and is enriched by these reflections.Printed Journal
