Sigma convergence versus beta convergence: evidence from U.S. county-level data
In this paper, the authors outline: 1. why ...-convergence may not accompany β-convergence, 2. discuss evidence of β-convergence in the US, and 3. use US county-level data containing over 3,000 cross-sectional observations to demonstrate that ...-convergence cannot be detected at the county level across the US, or within the large majority of the individual US states considered separately.
