It's More than the five to do's: insights on diversity education and training from Roosevelt Thomas, a pioneer and thought leader in the field

Johnson, C. Douglas - ;

In an interview, R. Roosevelt Thomas Jr, a thought leader and practicing pioneer in diversity education and training, shared insights and lessons garnered during his 20-plus years in the field. Diversity education for Thomas is about mind-set shifts. Diversity training is more skill building and tactics conveying, the five "to do's." However, in corporate America, nine times out of 10, they are interested in training and not education. What he thinks is missing from diversity training is basically concepts, he means creating understanding. There is a need to look at as wide of a body of literature as people can, and see what it says about diversity. Even if they don't call it diversity, they're talking about differences, similarities, related tensions, and complexities. For most people, diversity is about achieving the status of pluralism. Well, that's not what it's about. What it's about is in the midst of a pluralistic society, you have to make quality decisions..Printed journal
