The traditional view of the distribution of domestic tasks borne by women is still inherent in Indonesia. Even though women have been given the freedom to be able to have a career in the public sector, this then creates problems that make women assume a dual role in their daily lives, namely the domestic role and the public role. Therefore, this study aims to understand the challenges faced by working mothers during the Covid-19 pandemic which required them to work from home in depth. This research uses a qualitative approach with a critical - phenomenology method using semi-structured interviews. Ten participants worked from home at different companies/institutions in Indonesia, with diverse backgrounds. Data analysis using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This research shows that working mothers have challenges in the domestic sector, namely house care, child care, and husbands who do not play a role. In responding to these domestic challenges, working mothers do the work and outsource it to other parties, such as families as well as domestic workers. Further findings, working mothers have difficulty dealing with both roles due to increasingly blurred boundaries in the public sector, working hours while working from home are uncertain and there are additional tasks. So working mothers tend to overlap the two jobs, which then causes fatigue which results in work stress in public works. This study recommends that companies create a supportive work environment, and provide counseling service facilities, as well as paternity/family leave to reduce the negative impact that working mothers feel on their work in the public sector while working from home.
