Effect of World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement on Trade in Environmental Goods in Developing and Least-Developed Countries
The Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to reduce the time and cost of international trade by endorsing the most effective approaches for managing goods during cross-border-border shipments. Despite this goal, no previous study has been done on how TFA affects the trade of environmental goods. Using data from 2017 to 2021, this study uses a random effect panel data model to examine how the TFA affects trade in environmental goods in developing and least-developed countries (LDCs). The outcome demonstrates that there is no evidence that the TFA impacts trade in environmental goods. The result is robust to alternative estimation methods, subsample analysis, and using different standard errors. This might be because the countries' efforts to implement the TFA may not successfully facilitate trade in environmental goods, or the TFA commitment rate may not accurately reflect the countries' actual TFA implementation. However, control variables like GDP, population, and industrialisation level positively and significantly impact trade in environmental goods.
