Deflation and potential impacts towards domestic tourism
Deflation in Indonesia has occurred for the three consecutive months in a row from May to July 2024. Although this may seem advantageous, prolonged deflation is often a sign of weak consumer demand, reflecting broader economic uncertainty. While reduced prices may stimulate domestic tourism by making travel more affordable, sharp declines can compress profit margins, jeopardize business sustainability and dampen investment in tourism related infrastructure.
