Tingkat Pengembalian Investasi Pendidikan Tinggi di Indonesia menurut Bidang Studi (Studi Mandiri)
Becker?s (1964) human capital theory states that income has a positive correlation with education. That is, the higher the level of education taken by individuals, the higher the income level those individuals will obtain when working. It happens because individuals become more skilled, along with the higher level of education they take, as a result of the accumulation of skills/expertise obtained from each level of education. Apart from being influenced by the level of education, income level can also be influenced by the field of study that individuals learn at school. This is because each field of study delivers different skills and knowledges. Webber (2014) states that there are certain fields of study that have greater value than other fields of study in the labor market. Therefore, this research aims at analyzing the differences in income levels among the higher education fields of study in Indonesia, as well as analyzing the differences in rate of return to education among the higher education fields of study that individuals will obtain when continuing their education to a higher level. The urgency of conducting this research is increasing as some individuals still find it difficult to determine which field of study to learn when they want to continue their education to a higher level. Using the data from Sakernas 2019 and Heckman?s two step model estimation method, the results of this research indicate that education and teaching field of study yields the lowest monthly income level, then health field of study yields the highest rate of return to education for individuals from this field of study who continue their education to S1 and S2, while education and teaching field of study yields the highest rate of return to education for those from this field of study who continue their education to D3 and S3. Apart from being influenced by the level of education and fields of study, income level can also be influenced by other factors, such as participation in job training, gender, worker status, type of workplace, type of occupation, and classification of the business field where individuals work.Ada Tabel
