Nuryanti, Wiendu - ;

Article by professor of archeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Unud Prof. Dr. I Wayan Ardika, M.A. published as a book chapter in the book WISDOM: Local Wisdom Global Solutions (2016). The book edited by UGM professor and former Deputy Minister of National Education for Culture, Prof. Dr. Wiendu Nuryanti was published by Gajah Mada University Press late last year.

In the book, Prof. Ardika contributed knowledge about cultural tourism and the creative economy. This article is in chapter 7 with the title "Village Tourism and Creative Economy: Adapting to Change."

This book is the result of the world-class conference "Wisdom 2010: World Conference on Culture, Education and Science", held at UGM several years ago. The former Dean of FIB for two periods (2003-2011) in his writings discussed Tenganan Pegringsingan Village which is located in Karangasem Regency. According to him, the structure or layout of the village, settlement patterns and local customs are quite unique, making many researchers and tourists interested in visiting this village.

"Tenganan Pegringsingan has now developed as one of the most important cultural tourism areas in Bali," said this alumnus of Australia National University.

In his writing, Prof. Ardika also explained that heritage tourism is not just enjoying natural beauty, but also tourism to increase experience and knowledge about an area, artifacts in that area, and also the activities of local residents which represent stories from the past to the present.

"Cultural tourism is one of the fastest growing segments in the tourism industry today," said Prof. Ardika who was also Chair of the Unud Tourism Studies Master's Study Program. In his writing, Prof. Ardika also explained that cultural tourism is very important to develop for various reasons, namely providing positive economic and social impacts, being able to establish and strengthen the identity of indigenous people, and helping to preserve cultural heritage.
