There's A Fat Chance They Won't Get Employed: Pengaruh Obesitas terhadap Keputusan Kerja Muslim Dewasa di Indonesia

Agustine, Wina - ; Dr. Irfani Fithria Ummul Muzayanah S.E., M.S.E (Pembimbing/Promotor) - ;

Obesity prevalence has been rising year by year in Indonesia and the majority of obese adults in Indonesia are Muslim. Based on prior research, the effect of obesity on physical and mental health can influence obese individual's working decision. The aim of this study is to see the effect of obesity on Muslim adult's working decision which is divided by three sample variance, i.e, full sample, female sub-sample, and male sub-sample. This study uses two methods which are univariate probit and recursive bivariate probit as a regression model for instrumental variable (IV) to detect endogeneity problem in this study. I use data from the fifth wave of IFLS with respondents that are 18 to 64 years old and not pregnant. Obesity is calculated by BMI and divided into obese and not obese categories. Afterwards, work decisions are classified into working and not working. For instrumental variable, this study uses child's obesity with criteria such as respondents' first born, biological, and aged from 6 to 21 years old. This study found no endogeneity problem on full sample and female-sub sample but there is endogeneity problem on male sub-sample. The result of this study shows that obesity has negative and significant effect on overall adult's Muslim and female Muslim?s working decision, however, the effect found on male Muslim's working decision is positive and also significant. The effect of obesity on working decision is mostly influenced by health factors compared to other factors.Ada Tabel
