Ekonomi politik skandal bank century
In the face of economic downturn, the Government of Indonesia decided to bail out Bank Century in November 2008. This decision has triggered pros and cons leading to the use of Hak Angket by the parliament. Was it correct to deem a small bank with bad reputation in the past as having an industry-wide systemic impact? During the course, are there any miscalculation, mishandling and violations against the law? What does this mean to the future of Indonesia's democracy? This paper argues that the use of Hak Angket and its accompanying results may pave the way to a more promising check and balances mechanism and hence strengthening the culture of democracy in Indonesia
